Renpower Tunisia - The 3rd Renewable Energy & Power Infrastructure Investors Conference

Tunis - 13.12.2018-14.12.2018

Following the success of the 2016 and 2017 editions, I am delighted to announce RENPOWER Tunisia 2018: The 3rd Tunisia Renewable Energy & Power Infrastructure Investors Conference. It is now set to take place in Tunis at the Laico Tunis Hotel on 13 and 14 December 2018.

This two-day event will highlight business development and investment potential in power infrastructure and renewable energy projects in Tunisia. An increasing number of international market participants are eyeing key opportunities available in this developing market. Participants will be updated by local stakeholders, IFIs and other private sector experts on the current status and the further prospects.

Background

Tunisia has invested about US$4.96bn for energy projects, both to increase power generation capacities and to upgrade electricity grids in the country by the end of 2020. The Tunisian Solar Plan is Tunisia’s official long-term plan for renewable energy. It includes specific 2030 targets for investment in wind energy, solar photovoltaic and concentrated solar power. Continuing the reform of the energy sector is a key plan for the Government of Tunisia, in order to make it more financially viable and sustainable, and thus creating the conditions to achieve the goal of generating 30% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

According to the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Tunisia’s total installed green power generating capacity had reached approximately 342 MW by the end of 2016. The government has allocated some $1bn for renewable energy projects in 2017, with the aim of adding 1000 MW of generation capacity. In this respect, it has launched in May 2018 a 1,000MW renewable energy auction - a total of 650 MW from solar photovoltaic power projects and 350 MW from wind, while the private sector is expected to contribute an additional $600m over the course of the year.

As the country is looking to increase its power generation capacities and to upgrade the electricity grids by the end of 2020 and beyond, it is also taking steps to attract investment in the sector and to improve project developers confidence.
